The United States is no longer in the top 20 in life expectancy. The main causes are cardiovascular  disease, drug overdose deaths, gun homicides and suicides, teen suicides, and car accidents. Drug overdoses, gun homicides and suicides, and teen suicides result from the increasing frustration and hopelessness that stems from our failing society. The increase in car accidents results from the growing breakdown in respect for the law. We are seeing an increasing number of people ignoring speed limits, traffic signals, and other motor vehicle laws, as well as driving recklessly and tailgating, even at high speeds, as people no longer value life, their own as well as that of others. We will continue to see a decreasing length of life as long as we ignore the true value of life and the rule of law.

President Biden issued numerous pardons before leaving office. In addition, he reduced the sentences of almost everyone on death row to life in prison. That included many convicted of murder and a number convicted of mass murders. That shows how little he values human life. The death penalty has always stood as the penalty for the worst crimes including premeditated murder, killing a police officer, and mass murders. It is felt that those committing such crimes pose a great threat to society. Apparently he feels mass murderers are doing us a favor by eliminating people they don’t like. He also set free 500 terrorists being held in Guantanamo Bay who returned home to rejoin their terrorist groups. That is in sharp contrast to his support of abortion which includes the killing of innocent babies. Apparently he feels we need to save the guilty and kill the innocent. He also issued a blanket pardon for his son and included all crimes he has committed over the last eleven years. I didn’t know you could issue pardons for crimes people have not been charged with. I thought you only pardoned those who have been wrongly convicted or who you feel were sentenced to unfair prison terms and have already served an adequate sentence. It is apparent that he has something  to hide and he does not want those crimes investigated. It also seems a breach of his authority to pardon his son, since he has a clear conflict of interest. In addition, he issued pardons for a number of his family members and relatives that have not yet been implemented in crimes which makes you wonder what they are guilty of that he doesn’t want investigated.

Second Sunday of Epiphany-Jan 17, 2025

Minister to the Homeless -You can show that God cares for someone who doesn’t know Him by volunteering at a homeless shelter-In the past, many people became homeless due to addictions to drugs and alcohol but today, many are losing their jobs through no fault of their own due to layoffs and plant closings and finding new jobs is difficult. Many new jobs do not pay them even close to their old jobs. Many are losing their homes with no way to pay the mortgage or rent. While the homeless were formerly individuals, an increasing number are families with children. Many homeless shelters are struggling to meet the need but lack funds to pay the staff needed and need volunteers to help sort donations, fix meals, clean, entertain children, teach budgeting and homemaking classes, to help residents to rebuild their lives.

Democrats are already attacking President Trump’s cuts to the budget which are necessary because of President Biden’s reckless spending. They are claiming that cuts to the budget of the IRS will benefit the rich who will be able to get away with fraud because the IRS won’t have the personnel to audit them. That ignores the fact that President Biden added hundreds of IRS agents to audit and threaten churches and conservative non-profits with revoking their non-profit status if they did not comply with the liberal pro-abortion and pro-gay agenda. While churches are automatically considered non-profit, and not subject to audit, the IRS has added a lot of rules about how collections are handled and staff are paid to gain access to church records and intimidate them into being silent on social issues. They have even demanded copies of some pastor’s sermons to see if he is speaking out on social issues and inserted spies in churches to monitor the pastor’s sermons. While  President Biden claimed that if Trump was elected, he would become a dictator, President Biden has shown open contempt for the law and acted more like a dictator then a President.

President Trump will probably go after President Biden and his son for their illegal influence peddling and Democrats are already gearing up to discredit it as the Republicans trying to discredit Democrats like they did to Donald Trump, however where they prosecuted Donald Trump with fake charges most of which they ultimately dropped because they could find no evidence of a crime, the Justice Dept. has had adequate evidence of Joe and Hunter Biden’s wrongdoing since 2020 and has tried to bury it by censoring social and public media and distributing fake news. Federal agents openly lied to the public stating that the story about Hunter Biden’s laptop was fake news until whistleblowers produced the laptop and they could no longer deny it. Then they finally admitted it but would not let the media publish it. Unfortunately for them, they don’t control all the media yet. While they prosecuted Trump for possession of documents he was legally allowed to possess as President, they refused to prosecute Joe Biden for possession of documents he obtained when Senator and Vice-President which he was not allowed to possess legally. Hopefully they will also go after him for the billions of dollars that he funneled to voting blocks like college students to buy their votes, including two trillion dollars in the last three months of his term. Democrats will probably claim that he had immunity because of the Supreme Court ruling that a President cannot be prosecuted for acts he commits while carrying out his duties as President, however the Supreme Court ruled that he did not have the authority to cancel student loan debts or authorize the other expenditures, so it was not part of his duties as President and so should not be immune to prosecution.

First Sunday of Epiphany-January 12

11 Jan

Tell the Story-Epiphany celebrates the coming of the Wise Men when we remember that God revealed Himself to the Gentiles. It is a time we should reveal Him to those who do not know Him. Many people will see the manger scene and not understand what it means because they have no church background. A large percentage of people today have not attended church and do not know anyone that they know of who attends church. Many Christians assume those they meet at work and at school attend church somewhere but few of them do. Few churches today have Christmas eve services but those that do usually include only members and rarely have visitors. It is a great time to invite those who do not attend church to come and hear the Christmas story, especially those who have children. Christmas carols used to be sung in the schools and played in stores, but many have dropped or even banned those with a Christian message. Church members can get together and carol at nursing homes and in their neighborhood to tell the Christmas story. Songs should not be random but organized to tell the story.

Liberals say Euthanasia is the compassionate thing. However, there is a need for palliative care. Those who were terminally ill were once doped up to await the end, now they can get pain relief with consciousness so they can live out their life meaningfully. We need to kill the pain, not the person. Killing is the easy way out, fighting pain takes a prolonged struggle but it is worth it. Killing is cost effective but is cost the primary consideration when a person is terminal? Doctors who assist them threaten the moral integrity of the medical profession. Would you want a doctor treating you that will kill some of his other patients because he feels their treatment will be too expensive. Will he consider your case hopeless or your treatment too expensive and kill you?

Accepting Euthanasia is a Slippery slope. Dr Kovorkian started with those who were terminally ill and moved on to those who were only depressed.  The desire for death doesn’t always mean they want help dying. They may feel death would be a release but not want to do it. Safeguards are ineffective and often ignored. Accepting voluntary requests often leads to involuntary acts since outside pressure often prevails. It is often difficult to determine if someone is a vegetable? People who were thought to be a vegetable in a permanent coma have woke up and said they heard everything but couldn’t respond. Some woke up years later and returned to leading a normal life. Some who they thought were untreatable were  able to find treatment. Government-run health insurance programs pose a serious problem since decisions are based on cost-effectiveness without regard for the individual. A couple in England whose child was diagnosed with a critical disease. The government-run health board ruled he was not worth treating and ordered the hospital to remove his life support. The couple appealed to social media and hospitals in America  and Australia offered to take the child, but the government refused to release the child and removed his life support. He died shortly after.

Doctors in Canada euthanized about 15,000 people last year according to records. However, it is probably much higher as doctors don’t want to be known for killing their patients. Many are probably hidden like many abortion related deaths are in America. Mothers who die from botched abortions are often listed under innocent sounding titles like excessive bleeding from the uterus. It sounds innocent but hides the fact she was bleeding from a perforated uterus as the result of a botched abortion. Not all mercy killings are voluntary. For instance, there was a 61 year old man. The man was medically healthy but suffered from chronic depression. An Ontario court had recently struck down the requirement that the person have a terminal illness to be eligible for a medically induced death. The family was not informed of the fact until just before he was euthanized. When informed about it they begged doctors not to end his life, but they did anyway. Since chronic depression is often cyclical, there is no reason to believe that had he not been killed, the man would have changed his mind in a few days. Since socialized medicine rations health care based on whether the government board feels a life is worth the cost of the treatment, it approved ending his life because they didn’t feel that it was worth the cost of continuing to treat him. Our attention is constantly on abortion, but we often forget other issues like assisted suicide and mercy killing. Assisted suicide is assisting someone who wishes to die, while Euthanasia (mercy killing) is taking the life of one who is terminally ill or suffering, with or without their request.
