Make America Great Again-E-B

Value of Gender-While sex is determined by our genes, gender  is learned from parents and others around them. Boys and girls learn what gender they are long before they know about the different body parts. Though they claim they are born that way, traditionally, most Gay people were boys who developed it at an early age. Trauma or other circumstances may have caused them to be sensitive to others feelings. That is normally a female trait and the boys were often bullied for it. As a result they begin to identify as girls. Parents may also contribute. For instance one boy who claimed he was a girl from the time he was two. While his parents had no idea why he claimed to be a girl, it was evident that they had wanted a girl and were disappointed to get a boy. They unconsciously conveyed their feelings to him without knowing it so he wanted to be a girl so they would accept him. Boys who go through puberty in a school with very little contact with girls, like in a Boy’s school or  monastery, may develop a sexual relationship with other boys not available from girls. That is why it is more common among the rich and priests.  Today, it is increasingly common among older girls in their teens. That is because our media shames girls by portraying girls with perfect bodies and because of the boys obsessed with sex hounding them. It also results from the lie perpetuated by the media that girls are restricted from equality with men by the so-called glass ceiling. They see the male lifestyle as more desirable and safe.

Eleventh Sunday of Pentecost-August 17

Truck Stop Ministry-Few people take any thought to the many trucks that travel our highways day and night. Many truckers have families that they don’t see for weeks at a time. Often they are alone for long periods except for stops at truck stops to fuel, eat, and sleep. Drivers have long periods with nothing to do but think as they drive, or while they rest over layovers and while they may have passing conversations with truckers they pass, they often have little meaningful conversation. Truck stop ministries are springing up where truckers can stop and visit and where volunteers are glad to minister to their spiritual and social needs. Many ministries are getting trailers to use for worship services where Christian drivers can worship while they are on the road, since it is difficult for drivers to drive around town on Sunday morning looking for a church with a parking lot big enough to accommodate their rig.

I will be  speaking at the Wood County Senior Center in Bowling Green during the month of October. Up until the 1960’s, America was a strong and prosperous country built on its founding values. Though they were only ideals in the beginning, they have gradually been realized. Since the 1960’s, those values have been corrupted and distorted in a way that has destroyed our families, our economy, and our government. I will be discussing the values of life Oct 9,the value of the rule of law Oct 16, the value of family Oct 23, the value of time, truth, and education Oct 30, and the value of you, your work, and your possessions Nov  6. Sign up through the Senior Center.

-Homeless shelter ministry When I was young, the predominant homeless person was a drunken man or a broken down elderly widow. Social security has lifted many of the elderly out of poverty but we are seeing an increasing number of families. While welfare sustains many poor families, there is a great need for low cost housing that they can afford. As a result, we are seeing an increasing number of families while shelters for families fall far below the need, particularly in rural areas where families often bunk up with friends moving from house to house until they run out of friends. Some are homeless up to two years before seeking a shelter. Many are fearful of taking their children to the city where poor neighborhoods often contain violence and drugs. Single men and women are gravitating towards the city where most shelters for singles are but shelters are short-staffed and crowded. Churches can help shelters financially and with donations of food, clothes, and other needed items. Church members can also volunteer helping with food prep, childcare, parenting  and Bible classes, and sorting donations.

The poor were a small and isolated problem which did not effect the majority of America. However, the prosperity after the Second World War brought the problem to mainstream America. Many women worked in the factories while the men were overseas fighting. Afterward, Europe’s industry was destroyed and America was called to supply the world with manufactured goods.  The high demand for workers led many women to return to work in pursuit of the dream of a house in the country. With both parents working, children got very little of their parent’s time and many spent a lot of time in daycare. Many felt abandoned and rebelled against capitalism which they felt stole their parents.  Some went to live in communes, but they and others also rejected Christian values like the importance of family and the rule of law., which dominated society.  An increasing number of kids refused to marry or have kids. Russia during the Cold War knew it could not overthrow America and so began to undermine it.  It used the media to undermine Christian values by flooding the media with sex and unmarried characters.  They began infiltrating the schools through liberal textbooks and later with sex education teaching free love protected by contraceptives and abortion. Women’s equality groups which had sought to protect women and the family were replaced by women’s liberation groups promoting personal achievement through freedom from family responsibilities and rules protecting the family. Gay rights groups sought to redefine the family to gain respectability and break down traditional male-female roles which later expanded to push the transgender movement. By redefining gender roles, it destroyed the family structure needed to train children to become adults. Many of the problems we face today have resulted from the breakdown of the family.

Value of Family  America grew into a strong nation and eventually became the greatest country in the world due to the strong Christian values  but those values were transmitted through the family and the church which formed a supporting family. They were also supported by the schools which reenforced those  values. When Americans first went west, they left their family, schools, and churches behind. Life was untamed and brutal. However as families followed and began to be established, they built churches and schools which supported the family values and brought order to the West. Black people have had a hard time establishing themselves because of the past. Slave owners often divided families to allow them to train the children to be obedient slaves and prevent rebellion. After slaves were freed, Southern states enforced Jim Crow laws to deny Black men work so families were supported by the mothers. Without any experience in family living, Black men felt no reason to marry or any responsibility for their family if they married. While some are able to establish stable marriages, many have not been able to. Welfare has also contributed to the continued difficulty establishing stable families. Welfare rules required the husband leave the home so the wife could get help. While it primarily effected Black families because discrimination prevented men from getting good paying jobs, it also effected many poor Whites. By disrupting the family, it led to perpetuating poverty and has been the primary reason we have not been able to wipe out poverty.

Ninth Sunday of Pentecost Aug 3

Many churches started in the inner-city when the areas were more prosperous. As the areas deteriorated, many members moved out. The churches did nothing to reach the people living around the church. Eventually, the churches were made up mostly of non-resident members who came back to worship. The small remaining congregation was no longer able to support the big building which was too expensive to maintain.  Eventually the churches decided to move to the suburbs where most of their members lived. Since the remaining members were often poor and elderly, they were not able to travel to the new church. Now some churches are seeking to reach the people in the inner-city but are finding it difficult because they have to rent facilities and they are often viewed as outsiders. The people are often geared toward survival and preaching alone will not attract the people here. The church must demonstrate God’s love through tangible ministry by meeting needs and showing they care. It must go beyond merely providing food and clothes to providing job training and teaching life skills.
