Ninth Sunday of Kingdomtide-Nov 6

The Rule of Law Those who serve God view the law far differently than those who don’t. Those who make the law can always change it. If man makes a law, he can change it when he feels like it. If a friend violates the law, he can ignore it and if he doesn’t like someone, he can enforce the law harshly or even invent a law to trap his opponent. We are seeing politicians who do not respect the law and are harassing their opponents by accusing them of things they aren’t doing, while ignoring their own followers who are violating the law. However, when one serves God, he is aware that God makes the law and no one is above the law. Samuel was able to call King David to task for violating the law. He was still subject to the law, even though he was the king. In addition, only God can change the law. No one can excuse their friends from obeying the law because God is the final judge.  People may break the law because they figure they won’t be caught but God sees and will hold them accountable on judgement day.
