Liberal candidates are hammering out the message that Republicans are trying to abolish Medicare and Social Security. If that were true, my inbox would be flooded with messages from the many Seniors groups I belong to but not one has mentioned it. Since liberal candidates have been known to be constantly lying about what their opponent stands for, I don’t put much credit in it. They have a long history of lying about their opponents to discredit them and turn off voters who would vote for them, and have very little credibility. You need to look at those things they vote for on the floor of Congress when you decide who to vote for. That tells you what they really support and what they oppose. In addition, they say you should never look a gift horse in the mouth (Don’t question the quality of a gift) but you need to look at who is paying for it. Liberals have been passing out your money to everyone to get people to vote for them but that money is coming out of your pocket in the form of higher taxes. It is estimated that over 50% of Covid relief money was obtained through fraud. That is billions of dollars of your money which went to people who were either not eligible or illegally cashed a check for someone who had died. In addition, their policies are creating inflation which is robbing you at the grocery store and higher interest rates which are hurting low income people the most. They want to expand the number of those on welfare so they can get them to vote for them by claiming that their opponent wants to cut the number of people on welfare. However, those of you working know that your taxes are paying for the welfare benefits to many people who don’t want to work and would rather draw money from the government. While there are many people on welfare who really need help, a lot of people get help that don’t need it. When I worked for the welfare dept, they had an income limit for assistance. If you made over that, you weren’t eligible. If you made under that, you were eligible. It was based on eligibility, not on need. If you made under the limit, you were eligible, even if your expenses were low due to low housing costs. However, someone making over the limit wasn’t eligible, even if they had high housing costs and there was no money left for utilities. In addition, while recipients were required to look for work, and were not allowed to turn down a legitimate job offer, many made a poor showing at job interviews so they would not be offered a job. At that time, workers supervised people in their area, however now problems are handled in the State office and  clients don’t have individual caseworkers. Without close supervision, it is hard to detect fraud.  I stopped by the house of one of my clients one day and found it empty. A neighbor told me that they had moved out of the county (so they were not eligible to receive assistance from that county) and were returning to pick up the checks. She told me she collected their mail and they picked it up regularly. She also gave me the address in another county where they were living. Needless to say, their welfare checks got stopped.
