We are facing a new round of primary elections and it is important who we vote for because they will be the ones on the ballot in November. If the only candidates we have in November are liberal, we will have no choice except to vote for a liberal candidate. The laws they pass control what we can do and can’t do. Before Roe vs Wade, most States had laws against abortion, so it was very difficult to get an abortion. Some people got illegal abortions, but not many. While laws can not completely control actions, it can limit them. Many girls refrained from sex outside marriage because they didn’t want to deal with the shame and problems caused by an unwanted pregnancy. Once abortion was no longer illegal, the number of girls having sex outside marriage has exploded as they no longer have to worry about the shame and problems caused by an unwanted pregnancy and the number of abortions has sky-rocketed as well. Over 63 million babies have died in abortions since Roe vs Wade. How well the law is enforced also has much to do with it. Up until the 1960’s, laws were strictly enforced and it was evident on our highways. Most people strictly adhered to the speed limits. There were occasional speeders when they figured they wouldn’t get caught, but not many. Since enforcement of speed laws have been relaxed, many people ignore the speed limits to some degree. The same goes for the courts. If they adhere to the law and hand out just punishments, people will be more careful about obeying the law. If however, like today, many courts let felons off with minor punishment, or no punishment, there is very little fear of breaking the law and our courts are getting filled with repeat offenders.
