Priorities-C

President Obama stated he was canceling the pipeline from Canada and cutting American offshore oil production in order to protect the environment. The oil production and transportation still went on but just not as much in America. President Trump restored them, but President Biden cancelled them again. We are finding what happens when you depend on your enemies to supply a vital resource like oil. We have to ask if it is worth the increased cost of gas and the danger of shortages if we upset Russia and the Arabs who now supply our oil. While gas prices actually reached $4.00 a gallon and above under President Obama, he expressed a desire for it to reach European levels which were $8.00 a gallon at the time. He felt that would discourage Americans from driving and encourage them to switch to electric cars which would be more friendly to the environment. Since everyone could not rush out and buy an electric car and trash their gas-powered car, it would take a long period of transition. In the meantime, it would create a crisis in the economy as it brought the manufacturing industry and the trucking industry to a standstill, and sent the price of goods through the roof. It would also wreak the budgets of a lot of Americans who struggled to heat their homes and purchase gas for their cars. Fortunately, Congress held President Obama’s plans in check and has frustrated President Biden’s attempts, however those elected to Congress this year could end his plans or further them depending on the priorities of those elected.
