First Sunday of Epiphany-Jan 11

10 Jan

Reveal the Reason- When my wife and I were young, we would go out before Christmas to see the light displays. They depicted all kinds of things from Manger scenes to Santa Claus scenes and many others. Today, there are far fewer displays, and most are just lights. They are nice to look at but not nearly as interesting. Epiphany reminds us that God cares for those who don’t know Him as well as those that do. Christmas is an excellent time to put up a display of the manger scene. Liberals have gotten them banned from a lot of public places, so it is up to churches and individual Christians to remind people why we celebrate Christmas. Children are curious. They may ask you, why do you have a display of people in the front yard? It gives you the opportunity to tell the Christmas story of how God sent Jesus to help us. Start planning now to be a witness for Christ next Christmas. Buy a commercial one or build your own. Christmas cards also give an opportunity to remind people why we celebrate. Now is a good time to get them because stores are getting rid of their Christmas stock at sale prices

The media leads us to believe that police officers are deliberately targeting Blacks and as a result, there is increasingly violent retaliation against police. While many people claim that a higher percentage of Blacks are killed by police and a higher percentage of Black people are stopped compared to Whites, we need to examine the facts behind those statements. The fact is that a higher percentage of Blacks commit crimes. Currently, 52% of murders are committed by Blacks, even though they constitute only 13% of the population. Therefore, police are more likely to be looking for Black suspects and a police officer may stop someone who is Black because he fits the description of who they are looking for or because they are acting suspiciously. Police are also more likely to assume the Black suspect has a gun and intends to use it because of the higher percentage of violent crimes by Blacks. A Black friend of mine sent me the following statistics. He states that contrary to what we hear, the number of Blacks killed by police has dropped 70% in the last 50 years. In 2012, only 173 Blacks were killed by police while 326 Whites were killed by police. Apparently, police are showing greater restraint in Black areas but cannot ignore what appears to be an open threat. While liberals claim police are responsible for the higher percentage of Blacks arrested, they ignore the fact that more Blacks commit crimes because of liberal policies which promoted slavery which destroyed families by separating them and showing men that it is the overseers job to care for the women and children. They later prevented Blacks from getting an education and good jobs, resulting in a greater need for welfare which further destroyed families by requiring men to leave the family so they could get help. While some Blacks are breaking the mold and getting a good education and a good job, it will take hard work and several generations to rebuild the family structure among Blacks and undo the damage caused by liberal policies.

We are seeing more of the same old narrative to create fear and division. While they scream about mass killings, they claim they need to take away your guns to make you safe. It will only disarm you so you can’t protect yourself against criminals who are still armed because they don’t obey laws about not owning guns. They scream about police brutality and claim they need to defund the police to protect you from police brutality, however it means there won’t be any police to protect you from those criminals. They claim they have to stop arresting criminals because it unfairly affects Blacks but it means those criminals will be back out on the streets committing more crimes. They prosecute those who report crimes saying we need to protect people’s privacy  while they do nothing to prosecute those criminals allowing them to continue their crimes. It also makes people reluctant to report crimes out of fear of being prosecuted. It seems like there is a pattern here. Their goal seems to be to encourage crime and violence.

We are seeing the same pattern in the media with the shooting in Minnesota that we have seen in similar instances. They rush to condemn the ICE agent for killing the woman and ignore the facts. ICE was there to arrest people in the country illegally because the State was violating the law by not reporting them to federal agents. Then protestors showed up to protest the arrests and prevent law enforcement officers from enforcing the law. We already see a systematic attempt to obstruct justice and hamper law enforcement. In addition, this isn’t a random demonstrator who the agents were harassing. While the narrative paints her as an innocent protester, videos show that she was harassing the agents and when confronted, deliberately aimed her car at the agent and attempted to run him over. It looks like the agent was acting to protect himself and other agents. Although she hit him, he was able to escape without serious injury. This was followed by rioting in other cities to protest the killing and calling for ICE agents to be pulled out of the city. This follows the George Floyd incident six years earlier in the same city which followed the same pattern. Police seeking to arrest a man caught committing a crime was killed while resisting arrest. It is followed by riots around the country calling for defunding the police. The goal isn’t justice, it is to hinder law enforcement and encourage anarchy. However, the narrative also hides another important fact which is that it distracts from the discovery of the millions of dollars of funds to help the needy that were stolen.

Second Sunday of Christmastide-Jan 4

04 Jan

Those who feel forgotten.  (1/2/2021) 1/1/2022 Christmas is a time when we remember that Christ came to His people to reveal the nature of God and to show us a better way to live; a way of peace and love. This should be a time when we should draw together as a family and draw together as a church family. We need to bring some light into their life just as Christ brought light into the world for us. We should seek those around us who will not know the joy of Christmas unless we share it with them We need to take time to reach out to those around us who may be alone, whose families are gone or far away, and have no friends close. By visiting, we remind them that we have not forgotten them and God has not forgotten them either. Some may be able to invite them to share Christmas with their family so they do not have to spend Christmas alone. There are also many who are burdened with heavy cares, or who have lost loved ones, are shut-in and cannot get out, and let them know they are not forgotten and are not alone. We need to bring some light into their life just as Christ brought light into the world for us. Some will not share the joy of Christmas because of financial needs and cannot afford special gifts. The church can help brighten their Christmas. A growing number of Christians are deciding that instead of giving each other gifts they don’t need, they will put that money into buying gifts for those that might not otherwise receive gifts, or by supporting Christmas programs by organizations in their local area like The Salvation Army, or abroad like Samaritan’s Purse or simply giving gifts to neighbors they know who might not otherwise know the joy of Christmas. Christmas is also a great time to teach your kids the value of giving and the greatest gift they can give is themselves. Volunteer as a family to help a local church, social service agency, day care, hospital, or nursing home. Many have special programs at Christmas that need volunteers.

The media also gives a false impression of the economy. During the terms of President Obama and President  Biden, they reported jobs gained but not jobs lost. That gave the impression of increasing employment. For instance, when President Biden took office, he laid off all the Census workers and hired new ones. They promoted the number of new hires but failed to mention that they were replacing existing workers  so there was no job gain. They also failed to mention that they were Census workers and the positions would have been filled even if the economy collapsed and government workers were the only ones working. It also varies by State and the media highlights  losses but doesn’t tell people they are in liberal States. President Trump has lowered taxes and reduced costly government regulations which has enabled businesses to expand and stimulated the economy   however, liberal States have continued to maintain their own high taxes and government regulations  so businesses are fleeing those States to conservative States where taxes are lower and there are fewer government regulations. The media tells people how many jobs are lost when businesses close  but does not tell people that those jobs are not lost but simply moved to other States. Stores are also closing in liberal States due to high theft due to lax law enforcement and high wages required by higher minimum wage requirements and inflation in those States. That is not due to President Trump’s policies but to policies in liberal States.

Many people are turning against President Trump because of the problems with inflation but fail to realize how complex the economy is. You can’t fix it with a simple change of policy. President Biden set Trump up with massive expenditures after he lost the election which fueled even more inflation which kicked in as President Trump took office. While Trumps tariffs did cause some increase in prices, they were necessary to force other countries to remove their tariffs. The US has allowed foreign goods in free while other countries have tariffs to protect their industry preventing them from buying American goods which destroyed American manufacturing and has created a massive trade deficit for years. We have been spoiled on cheap foreign goods but they have come at the expense of American jobs. American’s demand for higher wages have made it  difficult to compete with cheaper foreign goods. It will take a while to rebuild America’s manufacturing. Some companies are hesitant to expand because they will face a return to higher taxes, renewed inflation, and more government regulations, if liberals return to power in 2028.

First Sunday of Christmastide-Dec 28

27 Dec

Many people are glad that the mad scramble to get ready for Christmas is over. Many were so busy they forgot what Christmas is all about. Most people don’t realize that Christmas isn’t over, it actual runs for twelve days from Dec 25th to Jan 5th (few people think about the words in the song-“Twelve days of Christmas”). This time is called Christmastide. Now that the commercial Christmas is over, we can relax and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas occurs on the shortest day of the year to remind us that when things were darkest and it seemed there was no hope, God came down to us in the form of a baby and dwelt among us. God revealed Himself to His people and He is with us. His presence changed the world forever. He isn’t someone up there in heaven, who is unreachable. He cared enough to come to us in our time of greatest need and is still here when we need Him. However, He didn’t just come to share a meal or something, He came to show us a new way to live. Our ways are selfish and filled with conflict but He came to show us a way to live in peace with one another and help one another. As we start the new year, let us commit ourselves to learning more about how He wants us to live and seek to grow in faith and seek to walk in the way He set before us.
