Social Strife-I-P

20 Jun

Since I was in college and watched the race riots, I have seen a remarkable decrease in racial discrimination and segregation. Black and White churches worked together to educate people and bring reconciliation. Desegregation has also helped. As children of both races play together and get to know each other, it has reduced racial tension. Granted, there is still some prejudice and discrimination, but not nearly what it was before the 1960’s.  In recent years however, there has seemed to be what appears to be a deliberate attempt to stir up fear between Whites and Blacks and pit them against each other. Liberals would have us believe that racism is as prevalent today as it was in the early 1900’s and that Blacks, Hispanics, and women are as discriminated against as they were then. They have also added Gays, Lesbians, and transgenders along with a long list of other social deviations to the list. They have even rewritten history to inject racism in everything. Critical Race Theory is being pushed in the public schools to instill in Black people a feeling of being the victim of systemic racism and to instill in White people a feeling of being the perpetrators of systemic racism, when not all Blacks are victims of racism and not all Whites are perpetrators of racism. Such teaching serves only to increase racial tension and create bitterness between the races that will further divide our country.

I recently received a letter stating that using the phrase “All lives matter” is demeaning to Blacks. While it is important to point out the high rate of Blacks killed by police, most of whom are White, to say that saying “all lives matter” is demeaning to Blacks is to say that Black lives are the only ones that matter. I find no fault with those who publicize the high death rate of Blacks at the hands of police, most of whom are White, if their intent is to publicize a problem. It is a problem that must be dealt with but it cannot be solved by ignoring the facts. We should not prosecute all White officers who shoot a Black man, simply because the one shot is Black, and the other person is not, even when it is justified while ignoring a lot of times when officers kill a White man or a Hispanic with no provocation. If it isn’t justified, and there is no room for a mistake, the officer should be disciplined, regardless of the race of the officer or victim, however if the shooting is justified, or if there exists the possibility that the officer made a mistake, the officer should not be punished. There should not be any discrimination based on the race of the officer or the one being arrested. Justice demands fair treatment for everyone, not just those who play the media.  Increased violence in response to shootings have increased fear of Blacks by Whites. It is easy to get caught up in the hysteria while the problem continues to escalate, but we need to step back and study the facts so we can develop ways to solve the problem.

I do not like the terms White and Black since we are all people and thinking in terms of we and them fuels discrimination but that is how liberals frame the debate. “Black Lives Matters” says they care about Blacks, but they seem bent on hurting Blacks. They want less violence against Blacks by police but by burning and looting, they are going to increase police fear of possible attack and increase the likelihood of police using force in restraining violent suspects. They say they want to defund police but that will hurt Blacks the most. That occurred partially in Ferguson, Missouri and Baltimore, Maryland after the much-publicized Black men killed by police. They cut the police force and withdrew police from Black areas to reduce confrontations. Crime and murders among Blacks skyrocketed as there were less police to protect them. BLM and liberal politicians started out calling for totally defunding and then backed off when they got such opposition to that position to one of only partial defunding. Even partial defunding will only be a replay of Baltimore and Ferguson. Blacks stand to lose the most. Police need community help to do a good job and driving a wedge between police and community by demonizing police only makes matters worse.

Reaching the Lost-Many churches say they want to reach those outside the church but do little to bring them in. Most churches feel that if people want to come, they will come without any prompting. Fifty years ago that was reasonable because most people had church in their background and if they drifted away after high school, they often came back when they had children so the children could have the advantage of a church upbringing but most people today have no church in their background for several generations and have no idea what church is and what it has to offer so they see no need to go. Some churches may make big displays through Madison Av-type evangelistic programs, but they draw very few beyond their own membership because people today are bombarded with Madison Ave advertising and have learned to tune it out. Many churches make no attempt to engage those who come from outside the church for curiosity or entertainment and those who come often don’t feel welcome and don’t stay. The church will not be able to reach the unchurched unless they go where they are and minister to their needs. The mission field is no longer just overseas but is now all around us and every member must be a missionary to those they meet during the week.

Engage visitors-It takes more than merely recognizing that someone is visiting. Many churches not only fail to recognize visitors, but they also fail to engage them. It is important to engage visitors and let them know that you are glad they have visited. It will inspire them to come back again and maybe become a part of the congregation. They may not live in the area and are only visiting, but they will still appreciate your contact, and will be more likely to visit again when they are in the area. In addition, they may have friends or relatives that live in the area and may recommend your church to them, if they don’t already have a church. Many churches fail to follow up on visitors. If a visitor is not engaged after a meeting and is not visited soon after their visit, they often don’t return, because those people come for a reason. People are looking for a place to feel they belong and if they are ignored, they will look elsewhere. Someone from the congregation should get their name and address and arrange to visit them to get to know them and introduce them to what the church has to offer them so they will have a reason to come back, and not leave it to the pastor. The visit should take place within the following week if possible as it is less effective the longer it is delayed, since they may decide to visit somewhere else the following Sunday, if they didn’t feel welcome. The pastor should actively train visitation workers to visit those who visit the church because a church that ministers to those who attend will grow and the pastor cannot do it alone.

A-D (6/6/2024) We are entering another Presidential election year. The President not only guides the country, he also appoints federal judges and Supreme Court Justices, as well as the head of federal agencies that carry out the policies of the administration. The judges are appointed for life and they can’t be removed, except for gross misconduct, so it is important that you elect a President who respects the Constitution because he appoints the Judges  you will have to live with until they die or retire. President Obama appointed a large number of judges who had no respect for the rule of law. They openly ignored the Constitution and many federal judges have ignored the Supreme Court rulings when they didn’t agree with them. As a result, we have seen the extension of abortion and Gay privileges and the deterioration of the rule of law. It has resulted in increasing persecution of Christians and other law abiding citizens. President Trump filled many vacancies with judges who would uphold the Constitution and the rule of law, however many judges appointed by President Obama remained and continued to subvert the law. President Biden has filled many federal judge positions with liberal judges and has undone a lot of what President Trump accomplished in restoring judges that respect the law. The person elected President this year will have many more positions to fill and will tip the country more towards respect for the law or away from it. It is also important to elected Senators who will approve the President’s nominations. If the Senate doesn’t confirm them, the positions will remain empty or the President will be forced to appoint judges that the Senate will approve.  It will also be important to elect both Senators and House Representatives who respect the will of the people because they will need to pass the laws needed to restore justice and to investigate wrongdoing by both President Biden and the federal justice system which liberals have been using to harass President Trump and conservative churches and agencies and to protect Hillary Clinton and President Biden from prosecution for their crimes.

I believe God raised up President Trump for this time which God knew was coming. President Trump respected the rule of law and sought to balance the budget. He did not take any salary but donated it to various agencies to help balance the budget. President Obama had no respect for the rule of law and used the mass shootings to push gun control in spite of opposition from the majority of Americans, yet the mass shootings continued. When President Trump was in office, he did a great deal to restore the rights of law abiding citizens to carry guns and you didn’t see the mass shootings like before because potential shooters knew they might face armed citizens who might spoil their plans and President Trump was not constantly calling people to attack those they disagreed with like President Obama and President Biden have. President Obama also used the “so-called” health care crisis to seize power by using Obamacare to require paying for abortion and contraceptives in spite of the fact that the law prohibited it and the majority of Americans opposed it. The House tried to add requiring paying for abortions to the Corona virus emergency act in spite of the fact it had nothing to do with containing the virus. Fortunately, conservative lawmakers were able to remove it.  President Trump also repealed President Obama’s mandate to pay for contraceptives but liberal State courts have still mandated it for their States. He could have done far more but was hindered by liberal politicians, liberal courts, and liberal agency personnel left by President Obama.  People reflect the government. If the government doesn’t respect the law, people lose their respect for the law and it is very difficult to restore that respect. You have only to go out on the highway to see how little respect people have for the law.
