Making America Great Again-F-A

Value of time- Too often today history is portrayed as a meaningless list of names and dates to remember for a test and then we promptly forgot them. My mother was a genealogist who studied the family history. It wasn’t simply an exercise to prove we were descendants from the Pilgrims so she could join the Mayflower Society, but a real interest in our family’s history. She didn’t just rack up a list of names and dates but took a real interest in who they were and what they did. The family history was the story of our family, the struggles they went through, the obstacles they overcame, and the tragedies they endured. However, it was much more. We  can learn from the mistakes and successes of the past. There is an old saying that he who does not remember the past is destined to repeat its mistakes. God showed how He valued history when He ordained three celebrations that the Israelites were to celebrate forever, not just for a while. Each celebration was designed to teach important aspects of the faith and had three aspects. It had a past physical event that explained an important part of the faith and was to be remembered. It also had a present to celebrate it which reenacted the event. It reminded everyone of its meaning in order to teach the children, and to remind the adults. At each celebration, the oldest boy or girl would stand and ask why they were celebrating it. The father would then explain the past event and its meaning.  The celebration would also remind them of a future physical event. The event  would fulfill a spiritual promise that God had made. (see the lesson on the celebrations in the course “Basic Christian Beliefs”)  Had the Jews remembered what the celebrations meant and what the prophets had foretold, they would have recognized what Christ was doing as He carried out what was predicted in the Passover meal.

Second Sunday in Lent Mar 16

Matthew 18:1-5 Like A Child-Many people now think that Sunday school is for children. When they grow up, they don’t need to go anymore. Jesus says that unless you are converted (born again) and become as little children, ye shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. When we are born again, we become like a child and need to learn how to walk in the way God wants us to, just as a child has to learn to live the way society expects him to behave. Children are not apathetic about the world around them, they are fascinated with everything around them. They want to see everything, feel everything, and try everything. We should be just as eager to learn about God and how to walk in His ways. That involves listening to Biblical preaching, discussing it in a class setting, and living it out in a close fellowship, just as parents need to lay down rules for their kids, talk to them about how to obey them, and then allow them to interact with the family where they gain experience.

Value of Gender-Many people today mistake gender for sex. Sex is determined by either XX or XY chromosomes. Men and women are physically different and the difference is easy to tell with the naked eye. One has only to look between their legs and they should have no trouble determining which sex they are. Abortion was pushed to break down the desire for normal long term male-female relationships in favor of short term gratification. Kids were promised they could have their fun and not worry about consequences, but it was all a lie. Those who are Gay have experienced some form of trauma or poor relationship with those of the opposite sex and turn to those of the same sex to get the sexual gratification they can’t get through normal male-female relations. They are trying to convince us that their relationships are normal, but something isn’t normal unless it is fairly prevalent throughout society. However, the Gay lifestyle has never made up more than 1-2% of the population, except during population disruptions facing breakdown of the family, and even then has never been a large percentage. Down through history, society has recognized that the different sexes have  different abilities and constructed gender roles that fit those abilities. These roles are socially determined and vary from culture to culture and may change with time within a culture.  There are people today who deny the obvious and have constructed an illusion where they confuse gender with sex. They feel that since they don’t fit the gender roles of society, that they must have been born  the wrong sex. Then they try to change their sex to match their gender. They can cut and paste all they want to but they can never turn a boy into a girl or a girl into a boy. Their sex is embedded in every cell of their body. They need to change their gender to match their sex.

Value of Family  When God created mankind, He created them man and woman. He has put in each of us an attraction for those of the opposite sex to draw men and women together to form families to protect and nurture the children. Each was created  with certain abilities to carry out the roles that God created for them. Women needed to bear children and care for them and God gave them the ability to feel another’s pain which is important for caring for someone else. Men need to provide for and protect the women and God gave them strength and the ability to plan and build which are important in hunting and protecting the family, and in providing shelter. He designed the family so that the two would combine their abilities to provide everything that the children needed to grow into productive adults. Children need both a father and a mother to learn how men and women should relate which is essential in establishing a stable marriage. In addition, the boy needs the father to teach him what he needs to become and a mother to show him what he needs to find in the mother of his future children. The girl needs a mother  to show her what she needs to become and a father to know what to seek in a future husband. While some contend that two mothers or two fathers, or a single mother or father will do, they do not provide all that is needed. We are currently reaping the results of our failing  families. We must restore the family as the basic unit of society but it will be difficult because most young people today have never seen a stable marriage and don’t know how to relate to others, particularly those of the opposite sex.

AB-AU It is apparent that the Democrat politicians are following a pattern they have followed since President Trump first took office. It you want to prevent people from investigating your crimes, you blame them on your opponent. When suspicions began to leak of Clinton’s dealings with the Russians, she set up the fake reports to implement Trump and they pushed an investigation of him based on the fake report. The media picked up the accusations and worked to turn voters against Trump to insure a Democrat victory, however, it failed. The Democrats in Congress then pushed the impeachment trial and continued it despite the lack of any supporting evidence. They abruptly ended the investigation when it revealed that Clinton had created the documents to prevent investigation into her dealings with the Russians. They then pushed another impeachment trial blaming Trump for Jan 6 and suppressed evidence showing Trump tried to prevent it by calling for National Guard troops to protect the capital but Nancy Pelosi rejected the request, leaving the capital unprotected. They continued to claim Trump was illegally nullifying the executive orders that Obama created when Obama had no  authority to make them and Trump was just removing them from the books. In fact many of Obama’s executive orders openly violated federal law. He sent a lot of money to Planned Parenthood to spread abortions here and overseas in spite of federal laws which prohibited federal funds from supporting abortion both here and abroad. In addition, they now cry that Trump is planning to destroy Medicare and Social Security in spite of the fact that Biden made severe cuts to Medicaid payments shortly before leaving office that were not set to take effect until after Trump took office so they could blame the cuts on him. It is time that the real criminals are held accountable.

Sermon-The Prodigal Son

First  Sunday of Lent-Mar 9

10 Mar

Liberals have failed to create the great society they expected because they fail to understand man. They feel that man is good by nature and society corrupts him. All man needs is to be freed from the restraints of society and he will develop best. They feel that if laws prevent him from doing what he feels best, he should ignore the law. However we know from watching a child that they are selfish by nature and want to do what they should not do. We have to establish rules to prevent them from harming themselves and others. As they grow up, they should learn to control themselves and as they do, laws are not needed as much, but we still have to have laws because the desire remains and some don’t learn to restrain themselves. If a child does not learn to control themselves, they become a threat to themselves and others. We, as a society are reaping the results of not training children to restrain themselves. Jesus said “You must be born again” He is not talking about a mere makeover but a new life, a fresh start. We can’t continue to live in the way of the flesh and expect to have fellowship with God. We must die to self and be born again through the Spirit of God. Paul says in Ephesians 4: 22-24. “We must lay aside the old self which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.” During Lent, let us seek to put off the old man of flesh and be born again through the Spirit of God.

Ash Wednesday March 5

03 Mar

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. Lent was a time when the early church instructed new converts in the  Christian life in preparation for baptism and should be a time when believers examine their life and seek out any sin in their life that would stand between them and serving Christ. It is a good time to examine our life in light of the revelations in the Gospels by reading through the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), a chapter or portion of a chapter every day. As we read, we should consider what Christ has to say about following Him and try to apply it to our own lives. As we examine our life, it should result in changes in how we live. Faith without works is dead for our works demonstrate our faith, just as a fruit tree that doesn’t bear fruit is worthless, works without faith is in vain because the works alone will not produce faith and often are merely a means to be seen by men. James 2:14-26. Now is a good time to reexamine your life and your faith.
