Seciond Sunday of Eastertide-May 4

01 May

Of One Accord As the discipled prayed for power, they were united in one purpose.  They concentrated on the job ahead and focused their attention on what was needed.  This should also be a time when the church concentrates on what needs to be done and what the church will need to carry it out. Summer is a good time for the church to concentrate its resources on reaching the lost while children are out of school, younger workers have the time, and weather is at its best. It should begin gathering what it will need to carry out its mission during Eastertide to be ready when summer begins.  However, many churches have lost interest in Pentecost and no longer focus on reaching the lost during the summer.   As a result, they do not do anything during the rest of the year when people are often busy with school and other activities.

First Sunday of Eastertide-April 27

26 Apr

He is Alive Jesus appears on road to Emmaus-Luke 24:13-35 When Jesus met two of His disciples on the road to Emmaus, they were discouraged because Jesus had been crucified. They had seen all their hopes and dreams of Jesus being the Messiah destroyed when they saw Jesus die on the cross. As Jesus walked with them, He opened up the Scriptures and revealed God’s purpose for His death and resurrection, but they did not recognize Him. As He sat down to eat with them, He broke bread and instantly they recognized Him. In the same way, we recognize the Lord and are drawn together as we celebrate communion. We see the world closing in on us and feel powerless like the disciples did when they saw Christ crucified. We often look at the task before us and feel it is too big for us. However, we can draw hope from the fact that Christ is alive. He conquered death when He died on the Cross for our sins and arose again. There is no greater foe than death and if Jesus defeated death, there is nothing we can’t conquer with His help.

It is interesting to hear those who are screaming because President Trump is sending illegal immigrants involved in criminal activities home and sending students involved in violent anti-American riots home portraying them as innocent freedom seekers. They have been very soft on crime. When President Obama and President Biden were in office, they pushed for reducing police forces making it more difficult to stop criminals and outlawed guns in areas they control to disarm innocent citizens and give criminals free reign since criminals don’t obey gun laws. They reduced penalties for crimes and often don’t prosecute criminals, resulting in increased shoplifting, theft, and murders in areas they control. They encouraged the rioters in major cities attacking the police, burning businesses, and killing people and the people vandalizing and burning churches and crisis pregnancy centers and did nothing to bring them to justice. On the other hand, they arrested and prosecuted innocent people whose only crime was praying in front of an abortion clinic. No property was damaged and no one was killed or injured yet they sentenced them to 11 years in prison and treated them shamefully in prison. It seems they only want mercy for the criminals and those who support their policies and they use the courts to threaten and intimidate innocent people who oppose their policies.

It is apparent that the Democrat politicians are following a pattern they have followed since President Trump first took office. It you want to prevent people from investigating your crimes, you blame your opponent of committing them. When suspicions began to leak of Clinton’s dealings with the Russians, she set up the fake reports to implement Trump and they pushed an investigation of him based on the fake report. The media picked up the accusations and worked to turn voters against Trump to insure a Democrat victory, however, it failed. The Democrats in Congress then pushed the impeachment trial and continued it despite the lack of any supporting evidence. They abruptly ended the investigation when it revealed that Clinton had created the documents to prevent investigation into her dealings with the Russians. They then pushed another impeachment trial blaming Trump for Jan 6 and suppressed evidence showing Trump tried to prevent it by calling for National Guard troops to protect the capital but Nancy Pelosi rejected the request, leaving the capital unprotected. They continued to claim Trump was illegally nullifying the executive orders that Obama created when Obama had no  authority to make them and Trump was just removing them from the books. In fact many of Obama’s executive orders openly violated federal law. He sent a lot of money to Planned Parenthood to spread abortions here and overseas in spite of federal laws which prohibited federal funds from supporting abortion both here and abroad. In addition, they now cry that Trump is planning to destroy Medicare and Social Security in spite of the fact that Biden made severe cuts to Medicaid payments shortly before leaving office that were not set to take effect until after Trump took office so they could blame the cuts on him. As a result, many doctors have dropped Medicare and no longer accept it, leaving many Seniors to pay out of pocket. Biden also removed barriers to those eligible for both federal pension and Social Security allowing a small number to double dip into both funds further threatening future payments to all recipients. It is time that the real criminals are held accountable.
