-I was in a meeting once where the subject of government assistance came up because the fight over cutting assistance or maintaining it came up. I made a comment about our agency possibly losing our government assistance. A man from another organization (a supposedly Christian organization) then spoke up and said to me “you’ve already revealed that you are a Republican (because I support public funds to private agencies, I must be a Republican), so there is nothing to discuss.” To them it is a debate over whether to provide government assistance through private agencies (Republican) or restrict funds to government agencies (Democrat) and who has the most votes. It is not about cutting or maintaining assistance through private agencies, it is about distributing funds so we use our resources wisely. Can a public agency or a private agency use them more effectively. Government agencies have large overhead staff spend 75% on overhead and only 25 cents of the dollar on services. Private agencies usually only spend 11-20 cents of  the dollar on staff and the rest on services, so it is evident that private agencies are more cost effective. The more efficient use of funds will allow more funds to be available for services
