I am often amazed at how many people, even Christians, believe that the government can save this country and the world. The Bible tells us that we should be always vigilant because Satan prowls around like a roaring lion seeking who he will devour (I Peter 5:8) and that there will arise false prophets who will do many great things so that they might deceive even the elect if possible (Matt. 24:24). Many people believe politicians who tell them that the government can solve our problems, yet the Government hands out money based on eligibility so it is merely a matter of reducing one’s income to meet the requirement. Three generations have grown up getting welfare to sustain them. Our society tells people they can get something for nothing and wonders why they don’t want to work. You can give a man a fish and he will have food for today, but if you teach him to fish, you can feed him for a lifetime. They have begun providing job training, job search assistance, and even work requirements but if the person does not want to improve, the efforts will be wasted. As long as the person makes more on welfare, they will not see any reason to change. They have added time limits to put an end to career welfare recipients, but the person will not be able to get and keep a job if they don’t make the effort to do it. Many people put in the minimum required to keep a job and trust the lottery will one day pay the rest.
