It also helps the church to recognize when they have needs so it can minister to their needs. Most pastors are occupied with administrative duties and don\u2019t get to spend much time actually visiting and ministering to their members and even working full time, the pastor cannot adequately supervise and minister to a church of more than 100-150 members. He must train and supervise workers, deacons and deaconesses, to assist him just as Jesus did. so a deacon board should divide up the congregation so each board member has responsibility for overseeing a portion of the church. They in turn will be assigned a small group of members who live close together which they are responsible for under the supervision of the pastor. The workers can get to know members and work closely with them to guide them in growing in faith. This not only enables the church to minister more closely to members but provides a training for workers who will often become pastors themselves in the future. The churches used to have assistant pastors who were studying for the ministry who provided ministry to members freeing the pastor to concentrate on preaching and church administration but no longer do. As a result most churches are struggling to get enough pastors. Current pastors are older and facing retirement and the church is not producing pastors to replace them. In addition, pastors are getting theological training but take over churches with no experience in ministering to their members.
