When my pay was severely cut&nbsp; due to budget cuts, I debated whether to apply for Social Security since I was 65. Many in the church urged me to take partial retirement since I paid into it and though I would get less each month, I would get more over the long term and no one knows how long Social Security will last. My thoughts were that by taking it at 65 instead of 70, I would get less per month, which would hurt me if something happened and either my wife or I could not work. To me, it is not about how much I can get from the government, it is about having money when I need it. I did take partial retirement in the end because I could not find a supplement income, but did so reluctantly. While previously, people generally didn\u2019t retire until they could no longer work, now many people retire at 62 so they can get Social Security and kick back and relax.
