Children learn right and wrong from those around them. If they do something and receive positive feedback, they will continue it. If they receive negative feedback, they will stop doing it. Children with bad behavior are often that way because their parents ignore them and the only way they can get attention is by causing trouble, so they are actually being rewarded for causing trouble. Such behavior can often be prevented by someone (a teacher, Sunday school teacher, neighbor, or relative) paying attention to them when they aren’t causing trouble, but in our isolated society, few people want to get involved. What does it teach kids when cities fine or jail people for attending church but stand back and don’t interfere with people who are burning and looting local businesses. When people see others burning and looting and the police don’t interfere, it encourages them to join in.
