Some States currently provide students a voucher to alternate schools when their school is failing to maintain acceptable standards. Some of them are now proposing expanding their voucher programs because of increasing parent opposition to what their kids are being taught in the public schools. Most non-public schools are church-related, yet there is continued opposition to State funds going to help church related schools. State vouchers that go to all students to be used at the school of their choice would allow parents to choose the best education for their kids and would not involve the State in supporting church related schools because it would be the parents who choose the school not the government. If the government tried to withhold funds in order to coerce them into things they don’t believe in, it would be a clear case of discrimination.
